Galway’s much-loved Italian restaurant and wine bar is in summer mode with the reopening of the city’s only riverside terrace, new food and drinks menus, and longer opening hours.
Il Vicolo Restaurant and Wine Bar has established itself as the place to be this summer in Galway. This month sees the reopening of its heated riverside terrace with additional seating options – the perfect spot to relax in the sunshine with a cocktail or a glass of Italian wine and some seasonal cicchetti.
Dishes on the new summer menu will reflect Il Vicolo’s signature style of authentic, modern Italian cuisine and will change monthly depending on the best summer season produce available. It will feature dishes such as Burrata, Organic Leaves, Sicilian Caponata; Gamberi, White Wine, Chili, Garlic, Focaccia; and Risotto Verde, Asparagus, Pickled Hazelnuts, Organic Greens.
Il Vicolo boasts one of the most extensive Italian wine lists in the country, with wines spanning from the north tip of Alto Adige to the boot of Puglia to the island of Sicily, and this summer they have extended their wine menu even further, which will now feature more than 80 Italian wines.
Gerry McMahon, owner of Il Vicolo, said, “We wanted to offer our locals a real taste of the incredible diversity of Italian wines. In the next year we plan to extend this further, surpassing the 100 mark, to offer the biggest and best Italian wine list in the country. Favourites include the white Lugana from Lake Garda which is trebbiano-dry and fresh, elegant yet extremely balanced; the red Primitivo di Manduria which is a powerhouse from Puglia with great structure, intense flavour and colour; and the Millesimato Prosecco, for those who love bubbles, which features apples and peaches with notes of white flowers and peach blossom.”
The longer summer evenings will see Il Vicolo’s ever-popular Sunday night jazz running later into the night, until 10:30pm. Enjoyed with a glass of Italian wine, it’s the perfect way to ease back into the week.
Happy hour at Il Vicolo also takes place every weekend from 4:00pm – 6:00pm with a changing selection of summery cocktail specials for just €6.
Extended summer opening hours are as follows: Monday to Thursday 5:00pm – 10:00pm, Friday 5:00pm – 10:30pm, Saturday 12:00pm – 11:00pm, and Sunday 12:00pm – 10:30pm.
