The much anticipated new season lamb from Achill Mountain Lamb will be officially launched at a ‘ceremony’ July 5th on Achill Island. The event which coincides with the Achill Half Marathon will see two of the country’s top chefs take on each other in a Lamb face off.
Martin Calvey and his family who are the exclusive producers of Achill Mountain Lamb for over 50 years will reside over the dishes prepared by Jp McMahon, of Eat Galway and Ian Ussher, Bijou Bistro in Rathgar. Each chef will be preparing their version of the ultimate lamb dish with produce from the locality. Visitors to the marquee will vote on who takes the title of best New Season Lamb Dish.
Martin says “each year the arrival of the new season lamb is a celebrated affair. We have back orders to process and there is much anticipation. This year we invited two wonderful chefs to showcase their talents and add to the sense of occasion. We invite young and old to Achill July 5th to help us celebrate.”
The event is open to all and promises to be a fun filled day with an array of other Artisan producers from The Gourmet Greenway and local producers promoting the best that Achill Island has to offer.
