Jp McMahon is currently exhibiting a selection of his paintings in the Town Hall Theatre until the end of November. This will be the first such exhibition for the chef and restauranteur. Jp holds a PhD in Drama and Theatre (University of Galway), and is a former lecturer in Art History at University College Cork.
The collection has been curated by Galway artist Margaret Nolan and includes pieces that feature bold, dynamic brushstrokes and vibrant palettes. Speaking about the exhibition, she notes that: “Each painting in this collection from Jp is a journey of experimentation with formal texture and the layering of paint which plays pivotal roles in the final outcome. I have enjoyed working together and I hope that people enjoy the experience.”
With a passion for pushing creative and culinary boundaries, Jp continues to develop his abstract style, constantly exploring new techniques and crossing mediums to expand his artistic expression.
Speaking about his first painting exhibition, Jp McMahon says: “ I have long used painting as a means to express that which often doesn’t lend itself to words, and I had the time a couple of years ago during the various lockdowns to focus on creating a collection that would invite viewers to interpret their own meaning through the titles, the strokes and the subtle use of texture and colour. I hope that each piece has a different meaning for the audience- one that reflects their own perspective and life experience.”
Visit the Town Hall Theatre to check out the exhibition which runs until 22 November 2024.
