Looking for an afternoon tea with a difference? Head to Haddington House in Dún Laoghaire for a creative and memorable experience.
Afternoon Tea at the Parlour combines the tradition of sweet and savoury but with a refreshing difference – instead of finger sandwiches, guests are offered a selection of seasonal savoury snacks such as beetroot meringue with foie gras parfait and chicken skin; ‘gougères noir’ with nettle gouda; and panipuri with pistachio purée, pickled cucumber, diced apple and seasonal herbs.
The second course also manages to retain and break with tradition in equal parts. The pastry team has crafted a shortbread scone that pairs with Haddington House’s homemade jams and clotted cream. Accompanying the scone is a selection of loose leaf Ronnefeldt tea served in fine bone china, prepared and poured at the guests’ table to their preferred strength.
The final course includes seasonal sweet treats such as Christmas pudding baked Alaska or clementine macaron. Each patisserie aims to be balanced to complement the other and provide a lightness that ensures a fitting conclusion to the Haddington House Afternoon Tea.
The seasonal food offering is complemented by bespoke cocktails, Piper-Heidsieck Brut champagne or a glass of Fritz Muller alcohol-free Muller-Thurgau.
Virginia Anton recently joined Haddington House as Food and Beverage Director. Bringing with her experience from L’Ecrivain and Chapter One, Virginia said, “The Parlour Afternoon Tea offers a truly elegant experience, made even more so by our exceptional personalised service. This is complemented with a refined collection of crockery and glassware and the highest quality linens. It’s the perfect treat or get-together for those who enjoy beautiful food and the tradition of afternoon tea with the added bonus of sea views”.
The design-led, decadent interior styling of Haddington House harks back to Victorian times, with plush velvet and tapestry textures, marble and brass detailing. An independent 45 bedroom hotel, Haddington House is a collection of four restored Victorian townhouses overlooking Dún Laoghaire Harbour. Afternoon tea was a regular occurrence in Haddington House in the early 1900s, so it is fitting that the Haddington House team reinvented this tradition giving it a contemporary twist, served in the hotel’s Parlour rooms.
The Parlour Afternoon Tea is served every Saturday and Sunday from 12.30 pm to 4 pm, priced at €50 per person, and includes a glass of champagne.
