The awards, now in their 15th year, were held last Sunday at The Intercontinental in Dublin. Aniar Restaurant picked up Best Restaurant in Connacht and came runner-up in Best Restaurant in Ireland in Customer Service. Aniar Chef Patron and owner, JP McMahon was also Highly Commended as Best Chef in Connacht.
The Food and Wine Awards and judging process is based on a national culinary panel of judges made up of industry experts and national food critics. After much deliberation on each category, each judge voted in secret for their top 10 in each category, including the top 10 restaurants and chefs from all four provinces, with Dublin treated separately.
Speaking at the awards, JP McMahon said “I’m so delighted with this award. Thanks to all our staff past and present who made Aniar what it continues to be: a restaurant in search of excellence”.
Drigin Gaffey, co-owner of Aniar said “In Aniar we have a small talented team who are constantly trying to push the food and service forward under JP’s guidance and I am so happy that their hard work and dedication has been recognised by this prestigious award”
