Greenes Restaurant in Cork city was awarded Hotel Restaurant of the Year in Munster at the Irish Hotel Awards 2018, which were held on the 24th of April at a banquet in The Heritage Hotel, Killenard, Co Laois.
Reacting to the award win, Richard Evans of Greenes Restaurant and adjoining sister venues Hotel Isaacs Cork and Cask cocktail bar said, “We are absolutely thrilled to receive this award which acknowledges and is a reflection of the ongoing service and quality of the total offering here at Hotel Isaacs, Greenes Restaurant and Cask Bar. The Munster Hotel Restaurant of the Year award is the latest accolade for Greenes Restaurant, which also has the distinction of being listed in the respected Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants in Ireland list for 2018 and 2017 compiled by the influential McKennas’ Guides. It also won Best Restaurant in Cork at the Irish Restaurant Awards in 2017 and Best Restaurant in Munster at the Food & Wine Awards in 2016.
The dining experience at Greenes is based on an absolute commitment to using only wild, foraged and organic produce from Cork wherever possible. The menus are constantly changing to reflect what is in season and what wild foods are available, with some only available for a few short weeks every year. Executive head chef Bryan McCarthy and his team forage for wild ingredients as well as using experienced wild food foragers for sourcing in-season ingredients from the land and sea.
This is the second year of the Irish Hotel Awards which are organised by NI Media Limited, publishers of YesChef Ireland magazine.
